It's alright. I'll survive. And he didn't like this place-- hated, I think. That makes it easier.

[Hated it. That might have been the case, but Jo had been grateful for the time it had given them. She and Castiel would never have become as close as they were otherwise.]

Maybe it does. ... he was family to me, too, you know. I'll miss him.

[ this place has offered chances at better, longer relationships with people otherwise gone back home, that's for sure. ]

... He was good to have 'round here. [ useful for one, being a damn angel. also oddly balancing. ] He did this before though, right? Went home, and then-- then he came back. Without memories. Might happen again.

It could.

[And she wouldn't mind seeing him again in the least if that happened to be the case, but--]

If he does come back, he won't know me. Not like he did.

[ he won't know a lot of things dean wants to say, but ends up simply remaining quiet. it will sting. his relationship with cas is strained most times back home, and here... here they'd had a chance to just be friends again, and face things together. ]

He'll still be the same guy though, inside. Just gonna have to dig him out. You put up with me and my, uh, amnesia.

He will, but-- it's a little different. You and I were friends to begin with. Cas-- before coming here, he and I had only just met. I always liked him, though.

[She's glad she's been able to count him among her friends for so long.]

You're probably right, though. Just-- gonna have to dig him out.

I am right. [ and he even smirks with the words, even if she can't see it-- and it feels good, something he hasn't done in a long while. ] Just wait and see when he pops up-- you two'll be pals again in no time. If nothin' else, just start by tryin' to get him drunk again. Seems to be a good icebreaker.

You know, it's still crazy to think about just how many shots an angel can put away without batting an eye.

[Trying to get Cas drunk might be one of her favorite pastimes.]

[She laughs a little, but it comes out stilted.]

You sound like-- you sound like you're doing okay.

[All things considered-- and she doesn't just mean Cas' disappearance.]

[ well, that quietens him down. but dean doesn't let it stretch to an awkward pause, only taking enough time to find the right words. ]

It's either do okay or don't, you know? I think-- I've been dragging my feet a lot lately. Cas wouldn't want me to mope after him.

No, he probably wouldn't. He never-- really seemed to 'get' moping.

[That was true enough, although he made efforts to understand.]

Maybe we could share a drink sometime soon. You know-- for Cas.

For Cas. [ there's a smile in his voice. ] I think I'd like that. And he would too. Just lem'me know when.

[ he doesn't know how busy she is with all her other stuff in life, but it's good to know things between them are easing up a little. breathing more. ]

I will. I'm here most nights, anyway-- you could stop by a little more often if you wanted, too.

[That's about as good as an invitation as he's gonna get, at this point.]
