[ sam looks like shit, just how dean remembers him from some years ago. it's almost shocking, but dean's known worse, knows now isn't the time to falter. ]

[ the blood thing is one of dean's least favorite of all "things", thanks. he knows the seriousness of this, and with how many demons there are crawling around now, with the devil guiding them all, it's only a matter of time before they catch wind of this and try to seduce his brother with their blood. ]

[ He thinks. Hopes, anyway. Sam draws in a sharp inhale, his own blood pumping like something more than alive in his veins and his stomach twisting with every second that passes. Because he isn't appeasing the horrible sting of need, it gets worse. Headaches, pains, sickness. Soon, it will get worse. He knows too well how the cycle runs and unfortunately they don't have Bobby's panic room here to keep him under lock and key.

More unfortunately, there are a dozen demons who'd be more than happy to step in and assist, if they knew. ]

[ righty right. but okay, they got this-- they've done this before, and despite what a mess it had been, dean's hoping this time will turn out better. even if there are demons crawling everywhere. ]

[ first step is making sure sam can't go anywhere, and is entirely confined to this room. it's mostly the only step too, until they can figure out how long this'll all last and if there's anything they can do about it. ]

[ He swallows hard, turning freshly-disheartened eyes on his brother for the briefest of moments. ]

I know. And we will. But... gimme a few hours, alright? I'll demon-proof the place, but I-- I want to be able to give this shot. It's been years, I might be able to shake it off.

[ And he hadn't had a taste of the stuff yet, if he can keep the demons away, it might work out. ]

If it doesn't go well-- I'll get you or Cas here the second I feel like I'm losing it. Alright? I just want to try.

[ he'd hate to allow his brother to trigger some demon blood complex again just because sam thinks he's stronger than he might be. it's all too much of an echo of how things once went downhill and lead to lucifer's revival. ]

[ he's 3 seconds away from going protective mother hen on you, sam. ]

I know. [ If anyone does, it's Sam. The withdraw was... worse, really, than anything he'd experienced. Well, one of the worse things, anyway, but he's far from looking forward to the experience again. ] You don't have to leave if you want to keep watch. Just... don't lock me up yet.

[ Yet. The unspoken promise that he will, in fact, let himself be tied down and deal with what he has to deal with. ]

[ dean hesitates, looks ready to argue... but in the end he forces in that desire to interfere too much, knows he has to trust sam even if it isn't the easiest thing to do always. or ever. ]

[ there's something more stern on his face then, as he looks at his brother. ]

But Sam, the moment you start even thinkin' like it might all be slippin', you gotta tell me.

[ Sam looks relieved, the faintest, tiniest ghost of a smile present as he nods vigorously. ]

I will, I promise. I'm not gonna let this get out of control.

[ Not if he has anything to say about it. With a faint sigh, he gets to his feet, wondering distantly if he should've just not told his brother about this and gone on handling it himself.

Any demons catch wind of this, for any reason, you just make sure that door stays closed. I'll chase 'em off, too, but that means no chit-chattin' with 'em over the phone either.

[ he knows how sweet worded ruby can be, or lucifer, or whoever. how easily they get under sam's skin.
